privacy policy
Last updated 1 November 2026
The short version
- Orthrus has no advertising, no usage tracking and no analytics. It never sends your music, audio, presets or projects anywhere.
- To register a licence and run the trial, Orthrus talks to our licence service, Moonbase. Those checks send the details listed in section 4.
- When you buy, Moonbase is the seller and handles your payment. We never see your card details.
- This website sets no cookies.
- We don't sell your data, and we don't send you marketing unless you ask us to.
1. Who we are
Sinai Audio is the trading name of Jacob Scott, a sole trader based in the United Kingdom, who makes the Orthrus plugin. For the data described below where we decide how it is used, we are the "controller" under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).
Contact: support@sinaiaudio.com
2. Buying Orthrus
Licences bought on our website are sold by Moonbase (Moonbase AS in Norway, or Moonbase LLC for buyers in the United States), which acts as the "merchant of record": it takes the payment, handles tax, and issues the receipt. For your purchase, Moonbase decides how your details are used and is the controller. Its privacy policy for buyers explains what it collects (such as your name, email address, billing country and order details) and why. Card payments are handled by Moonbase's payment providers; we never see or store your card details.
We can see your orders and licences in Moonbase's dashboard, so that we can support you, transfer or deactivate a licence, and arrange refunds.
If you buy from another store, that store's own privacy policy applies to the purchase.
3. Your store account and the trial
Starting the free trial may need a free account on our store, which Moonbase runs for us. For your account and the licences in it, we are the controller and Moonbase processes the data on our behalf. The account holds your name, email address, sign-in details and your licences and trials. We use it to give you the trial, to deliver and manage your licences, and to answer your questions.
4. Registering and licence checks
Registering online, starting the trial and each later licence check send these details to Moonbase's licence service:
- your licence key or account details;
- the computer's name;
- an identifier worked out from the computer, its operating system and the version of Orthrus;
- the IP address and approximate location the check comes from.
We use them to check that a licence is genuine, to keep to the number of computers a licence allows, to run the trial, and to spot misuse such as a computer's clock set back to extend a trial. A copy registered online checks its licence about once an hour while it's open and the computer is online.
Offline registration happens without an internet connection: you move a file between computers yourself, and an offline registration is never checked online again.
5. What stays on your computer
Orthrus stores a few files on your computer for its own use: your settings (such as window size and favourite presets) and records the licence check uses, including the latest time Orthrus has seen, so that a clock set back can be noticed. These stay on your computer. Orthrus doesn't upload, collect or share your audio files, presets, projects or the music you make.
6. When you email us
If you write to us, we receive your email address, your message and anything you attach, and use them to answer you. Our email is handled by Proton (Proton AG, Switzerland).
7. This website
This website is hosted by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes the IP address and browser details of each visit to deliver the pages and protect the site from attacks. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. It sets no cookies, doesn't follow you across other websites, and gives us only overall numbers, not information about individual visitors.
This website sets no cookies and has no advertising.
8. Our legal reasons
| What | Why we're allowed to |
|---|---|
| Store account, licences, trial, licence checks | To provide what you've asked for and keep to the licence agreement (contract) |
| Spotting misuse of licences and trials | Our legitimate interest in protecting Orthrus from piracy, balanced against your rights |
| Answering your emails | Our legitimate interest in helping you, or contract when it's about your licence |
| Website hosting and visit counts | Our legitimate interest in running a secure website and knowing which pages are useful |
| Order records | Legal obligation (tax and accounting records) |
9. Who else handles your data
We use these services, and only for the purposes above:
- Moonbase: store, checkout, accounts, licences and licence checks.
- Cloudflare: website hosting, visit counts, and forwarding email sent to our address.
- Proton: our email.
We don't sell or rent your data. We would share it with others only if the law requires us to, or to protect our rights (for example, against fraud).
Some of these services store data outside the UK, including in Switzerland, the European Economic Area and the United States. Where they do, the transfer is covered by the protections UK law requires, such as UK adequacy decisions or standard data protection clauses.
10. How long we keep it
- Orders: for as long as tax and accounting law requires (in the UK, six years after the end of the tax year).
- Accounts and licences: for as long as the licence or account exists, so that you can keep reinstalling Orthrus. Ask us and we'll delete your account, though this ends any licence in it.
- Emails: for up to two years after the conversation ends, or longer if it's about a licence that still exists.
11. Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your personal data, and ask us to correct it, delete it, limit how we use it, or hand it over in a portable form. You can also object to uses based on our legitimate interests. To do any of these, email support@sinaiaudio.com. We'll answer within one month. For data Moonbase controls (your purchase), contact Moonbase too; we'll help if you're not sure who to ask.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, please tell us first. You also have the right to complain to the UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk), or to the data protection authority where you live.
12. Children
Orthrus and this website aren't aimed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
13. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update it here and change the date at the top. If a change matters, for example new information collected by Orthrus, we'll also say so in the release notes or by email.
